FAQ: What are Terpenes & how can they help our Health?

Let’s Talk Terpenes! The many pleasant terpenes not only impart flavor and aroma, but also offer healing properties. These terpenes are widely represented elsewhere in nature in aromatic foods, spices, and tree resins, including broccoli, citrus fruits, mangoes, beer, basil, rosemary, cinnamon, and oregano. Here’s a quick overview:

ūüĆŅ Alpha-pinene terpenes are said to help enhance focus and memory. They are also thought to have bronchodilator, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.

ūüĆŅ Linalool (lavender) is a sedative, anti-epileptic, and analgesic that also can help reduce anxiety.

ūüĆŅ Myrcene (mango) is analgesic, muscle-relaxing, and antibiotic.

ūüĆŅ Beta-caryophyllene (clove), known as the “happy” terpene, reduces anxiety, lifts spirits, and acts as an antioxidant and antimicrobial.

ūüĆŅ Limonene (lemon peel) improves mood, reduces anxiety and depression, and boosts immunity.

All True Natural Oils products contain large, quantifiable amounts of cannabinoids. This can be verified by looking at the independent lab test results posted on our website. Terpenes extracted from cannabis offer a wide range of benefits when combined with CBD. In fact, when terpenes work together with CBD, they create a stronger effect. They deliver a richer experience by producing this synergistic phenomenon known as the Entourage Effect. Think of it as a treat to yourself!

To fully grasp this concept, think of human interactions in the business world. Some people have particular gifts or special abilities that allow them to excel in a subject or a field. Sometimes, these people meet other individuals who have a different set of skills. When alliances are formed between these two groups of people, and abilities are combined, progress can be made that were otherwise improbable.

CBD for Mood, Antidepressants & Anxiety

CBD works by interacting with the body’s own regulatory system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

The ECS plays an essential role in keeping the body functioning properly within a narrow range of operating conditions, and controls important functions like mood, memory, stress, sleep, behavior, appetite, pain, immune function and reproductive health. CBD can bind to these receptors in our bodies and activate the Endocannabinoid System, thereby regulating the same functions.

If this seems a bit too geeky all you need to remember is that CBD works a bit like social media- it acts everywhere and controls everything.

How does CBD oil ease anxiety?

As described above,  CBD works with the endocannabinoid system to produce some of the effects that people report, but CBD is also binding to other receptors in the brain like the serotonin (5HT)1a receptor. Serotonin deficiency is associated with depression and other psychiatric disorders, and it is likely that the effects CBD has on mood and anxiety are related to this interaction.

The ways CBD work in the brain are complicated and research is still lacking, but there is evidence to suggest that CBD might even work against depression and addictive disorders. The antidepressant potential, possibly due to 5HT1A agonism, has been explored in clinical studies with impressive results in relieving anxiety and boosting mood.

Furthermore, in contrast to pharmaceutical antidepressants, CBD does not have addictive properties. You can start and stop using it at any time without side effects.

We hope this has eased some of your worries about CBD, and can potentially help ease some of your worries in your everyday lifestyle with daily consumption. Please read on for more education or shop our lab-tested, Pharmacist- Formulated products now.
