Instead of dosing with a generic sedative to combat the anxiety of fireworks this fourth of July, consider CBD that has properties to reduce the actual anxiety your pet is feeling.
CBD has a broad pharmacological profile, including interactions with several receptors known to regulate fear and ANXIETY-related behaviors, specifically the CB1 receptor, the serotonin 5-HT1A receptor, and the transient receptor potential (TRP) vanilloid type 1 (TRPV1)receptor.
In animals, anxiety can look like whining, pacing, or general restlessness.
Don’t let loud fireworks frighten your pets without considering all your options, especially those with virtually zero side effects that can benefit the overall health of your pet vs less helpful pharmaceuticals.
CBD molecules interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the CNS, or the central nervous system and in the peripheral nervous system.
Interactions with these receptors prompt the release of serotonin. Medical research has shown that depressed persons exhibit lowered serotonin levels and therefore, it’s no secret that low serotonin leads to anxiety.
Treatment with CBD may also decrease the intensity and impact of symptoms commonly associated with PTSD, including chronic anxiety in stressful environments. Exposure to stress can trigger anxiety in PTSD patients and remind them of traumatic experiences. By reducing induced anxiety, CBD may help to regulate the negative effects associated with PTSD.
As we age, we can experience slower metabolism, increased likelihood of polypharmacy, cognitive decline and chronic physical/mental health problems.
CBD has no intoxicating effects or abuse liability, and because of its widespread activity in the Endocannabinoid System in the body, it has been proposed to be beneficial therapeutically for a variety of health conditions in people of all ages.
Generally, older adults suffer from more chronic medical and mental health conditions (eg, chronic pain, insomnia, and mood and cognitive disorders) than younger adults. Experts say CBD use will continue to gain momentum in the health and wellness world, with some scientific studies confirming it may ease symptoms of ailments like chronic pain, inflammation, and anxiety.
It is the duty of the healthcare professional to ask nonjudgmental assessment questions about Cannabis use, provide unbiased information, and help guide the patient to use it wisely. Physicians currently cannot prescribe CBD, however the better informed they are, the more they can help improve adherence to healthy behaviors.
As a doctor, important considerations for medicinal CBD use includes:
•Be open and non-judgmental in the dialogue with patients to keep communication open
• Be aware of the legal issues in your state • Provide legitimate and fair websites and clinical education to patients to research on their own
• Help patients be aware of drug to plant interactions, side effects and risks of addiction.
• Set goals and safety parameters if using CBD products
• Consider a treatment agreement
• Be mindful of addiction, abuse and mental health issues
As a patient, you should consider:
• Use a CBD product made from organically grown hemp
• Look for full or broad spectrum CBD
• Require transparency from your CBD company
• Keep CBD products out of reach of children
• Ask for test results and studies from manufacturers
• Utilize Independent Certifications when comparing product companies
• Look for companies that test for pesticides and heavy metals
Here, we report the case of a 20-year-old man with severe social anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, insomnia and attenuated psychotic symptoms despite ongoing treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy and mirtazapine who was treated with adjunctive cannabidiol (CBD) in doses between 200 and 800 mg/day for 6 months.
During treatment with CBD, he experienced subjective benefits to his anxiety, depression and positive symptoms during treatment that were confirmed by clinicians and by standardized research instruments.
Findings from this case study add to existing evidence in support of the safety of CBD and suggest that it may be useful for young people with treatment refractory anxiety and for attenuated psychotic symptoms.

“Cannabinoids and Blood–Brain Barrier (BBB): The BBB works as an effective border between the Central Nervous System, and systemic circulation & microglia represents the main line of defense of the brain. When neuroinflammation occurs, the BBB protective function can be reduced by an inflammatory reaction from an immune-related cells involvement.
The BBB is prone to the consequences due to chronic systemic inflammation as it leads to brain inflammation and consequently can impair its integrity.
In this context, interest has grown about the cannabinoids as potential anti-inflammatory drugs. These findings suggest that CBD could be part of a new strategic approach useful to treat inflammatory diseases of [Central Nervous System] indicating that CBD might be useful for the positive modulation of the BBB as a future treatment in ischemic stroke.”
Let’s Talk Terpenes! The many pleasant terpenes not only impart flavor and aroma, but also offer healing properties. These terpenes are widely represented elsewhere in nature in aromatic foods, spices, and tree resins, including broccoli, citrus fruits, mangoes, beer, basil, rosemary, cinnamon, and oregano. Here’s a quick overview:
🌿 Alpha-pinene terpenes are said to help enhance focus and memory. They are also thought to have bronchodilator, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.
🌿 Linalool (lavender) is a sedative, anti-epileptic, and analgesic that also can help reduce anxiety.
🌿 Myrcene (mango) is analgesic, muscle-relaxing, and antibiotic.
🌿 Beta-caryophyllene (clove), known as the “happy” terpene, reduces anxiety, lifts spirits, and acts as an antioxidant and antimicrobial.
🌿 Limonene (lemon peel) improves mood, reduces anxiety and depression, and boosts immunity.
All True Natural Oils products contain large, quantifiable amounts of cannabinoids. This can be verified by looking at the independent lab test results posted on our website. It is very important to check lab reports before purchasing CBD products. We provide ours by scanning the QR code on the side of your box!
Terpenes extracted from cannabis offer a wide range of benefits when combined with CBD. In fact, when terpenes work together with CBD, they create a stronger effect. They deliver a richer experience by producing this synergistic phenomenon known as the Entourage Effect. Think of it as a treat to yourself!
To fully grasp this concept, think of human interactions in the business world. Some people have particular gifts or special abilities that allow them to excel in a subject or a field. Sometimes, these people meet other individuals who have a different set of skills. When alliances are formed between these two groups of people, and abilities are combined, progress can be made that were otherwise improbable.
