FAQ: What are Terpenes & how can they help our Health?

Let’s Talk Terpenes! The many pleasant terpenes not only impart flavor and aroma, but also offer healing properties. These terpenes are widely represented elsewhere in nature in aromatic foods, spices, and tree resins, including broccoli, citrus fruits, mangoes, beer, basil, rosemary, cinnamon, and oregano. Here’s a quick overview:

🌿 Alpha-pinene terpenes are said to help enhance focus and memory. They are also thought to have bronchodilator, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.

🌿 Linalool (lavender) is a sedative, anti-epileptic, and analgesic that also can help reduce anxiety.

🌿 Myrcene (mango) is analgesic, muscle-relaxing, and antibiotic.

🌿 Beta-caryophyllene (clove), known as the “happy” terpene, reduces anxiety, lifts spirits, and acts as an antioxidant and antimicrobial.

🌿 Limonene (lemon peel) improves mood, reduces anxiety and depression, and boosts immunity.

All True Natural Oils products contain large, quantifiable amounts of cannabinoids. This can be verified by looking at the independent lab test results posted on our website. It is very important to check lab reports before purchasing CBD products. We provide ours by scanning the QR code on the side of your box!

Terpenes extracted from cannabis offer a wide range of benefits when combined with CBD. In fact, when terpenes work together with CBD, they create a stronger effect. They deliver a richer experience by producing this synergistic phenomenon known as the Entourage Effect. Think of it as a treat to yourself!

To fully grasp this concept, think of human interactions in the business world. Some people have particular gifts or special abilities that allow them to excel in a subject or a field. Sometimes, these people meet other individuals who have a different set of skills. When alliances are formed between these two groups of people, and abilities are combined, progress can be made that were otherwise improbable.

FAQ: How can CBD help my Diabetes?

Diabetic Neuropathies (DPNs) is the most common complication associated with diabetes and is a leading cause of disability due to foot ulcerations, fall risks and can lead to infection and limb amputation.

CBD play roles in modulating neurotransmission and immune function.

When a nerve is injured or damaged, nociceptive (pain receptor) pathways and the immune system are affected, and the dysregulation of these neuroimmune processes has been associated with pain.

Topical CBD was found to help with both joint neuropathy and osteoarthritis by serving as a protectant to the nerves and reducing joint inflammation.

One of the reasons why using CBD oil topically is preferred for arthritis pain or neuropathy is because when applied topically, Cannabidiol has a direct and targeted impact on the affected body joints, muscles and nerves. In other words, topical CBD offers localized relief.

FAQ: What is CBN & how can it help me Relax?

“Cannabiniol was the first Cannabinoid isolated from the Cannabis plant. The conversion process from THC to CBN can occur spontaneously in both Cannabis extracts and raw plant materials. CBN is a stable compound. It has a low affinity for the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, but it is slightly higher for CB2. It is also an antagonist of the TPRM8 channels and a potent agonist of TRPA1. It has been described as a weak psychoactive compound. Studies have indicated the antibiotic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, and anticonvulsant effects of CBN.” Cannabis sativa L. as a Natural Drug Meeting the Criteria of a Multitarget Approach to Treatment International Journal of Molecular Sciences; Basel Vol. 22, Iss. 2,  (2021)

True PM, which is high in CBN (cannabiniol), is gaining popularity as a natural alternative to help promote sleep and relaxation. Known as the “sleepy cannabinoid”, CBN naturally evolves from THC as it degrades or ages over time. Although it originates from THC, CBN is a separate cannabinoid and doesn’t have the psychoactive effects commonly associated with THC. For those interested in trying CBN, True PM makes the list of the best CBN oil products! All of our oils have extensive third-party lab testing and have received high marks from users of this product.

FAQ: What is the Relationship Between CBD & Autoimmune disorders?

Autoimmune Diseases such as: Lupus, Psoriasis, Type 1 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, etc. have shown to be linked to stress. For example, in this study citing a higher incidence of autoimmune diseases among people who were previously diagnosed with stress-related disorders. Another paper publishes:

Physical and psychological stress has been implicated in the development of autoimmune disease, since numerous animal and human studies demonstrated the effect of sundry stressors on immune function. Moreover, many retrospective studies found that a high proportion (up to 80%) of patients reported uncommon emotional stress before disease onset.

It is presumed that the stress-triggered neuroendocrine hormones lead to immune dysregulation, which ultimately results in autoimmune disease, by altering or amplifying cytokine [inflammatory response] production. The treatment of autoimmune disease should thus include stress management and behavioral intervention to prevent stress-related immune imbalance. “

Because of CBD’s ability to combat stress levels (see previous blog post), it provides as a preventative measure and potential therapy for Autoimmune Disorders as a stress management tool.

FAQ: How can CBD help my Stress Levels?

Modern-day science continues to show the link between Stress & Disease. Stress can be defined as any experience that causes tension, whether that be physical, psychological, or emotional- and especially if it sets off the “fight or flight” response – during which the adrenal gland releases adrenaline, leading to rapid pulse and breathing, and increased blood pressure).

“Chronic stress result [in] failures of homeostasis, [and] thus lead to various diseases such as atherosclerosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and depression. However, while 75%–90% of human diseases is related to the activation of stress system, the common pathways between stress exposure and pathophysiological processes underlying disease is still debatable.

Chronic inflammation is an essential component of chronic diseases. Additionally, accumulating evidence suggested that excessive inflammation plays critical roles in the pathophysiology of the stress-related diseases, yet the basis for this connection is not fully understood.” this paper publishes.

In previous blog posts, we have spoken widely about CBD’s potential in regulating inflammation and returning the body to homeostasis. We have even shown how CBD acts in a similar way as antidepressants as it works on the serotonin (5HT)1a receptor. Serotonin deficiency is associated with depression and other psychiatric disorders, and it is likely that the effects CBD has on mood and anxiety are related to this interaction.

FAQ: Can CBD help with Skin Cancer?

The potential role of cannabinoids (CBD, CBG, etc) as antitumoral drugs is being explored in relation to the inflammatory component of skin cancer.

In vivo and in vitro studies that employed either phyto-, endo-, or synthetic cannabinoids show promise in topical treatment of Skin Cancer.

Cannabinoids are regarded with growing interest as eligible drugs in the treatment of skin inflammatory conditions with potential anticancer effects.

Topical CBD was also found effective in alleviating the symptoms of the following conditions: oxidative stress on dermal cells, skin conditions characterized by inflammation and keratin disorders, such as eczema or atopic dermatitis, wound healing, pain & muscle relief, itch (pruritis), Acne/Seborrhea, modulation of hair growth, skin & hair pigmentation, oral care, and other skin disorders such as antibiotic-resistant skin infections, cutaneous malignancies such as Melanoma, and Psoriatic Plaques.

Many studies currently report these effects, and the readiness in monitoring of effects and the facility of topical application may contribute to the growing support of the use of these substances. Not medical advice.

FAQ: How do I know how much CBD to take?

“I DON’T REALLY FEEL ANYTHING DIFFERENT.” This is heard so many times among CBD users who are concerned about their dose being low at first. More than likely, too low! And then, consequently, they don’t follow up with what their “sweet spot dose” of CBD truly is. Please read to discover the true dose your body is prepared to receive:

True Natural Oils offers different CBD oils with various strengths. Hence, one drop of full-spectrum CBD oil with 750 mg of CBD concentration is not the same as one drop of full-spectrum CBD oil with 3000mg of CBD. When choosing the best dosage for you, there are some things to be considered.

For example, the CBD concentration in each CBD oil bottle, the user’s body weight and the condition that is to be treated. Even after determining these factors, there is still no ‘one-size-fits-all’ type of dosage. One option is to consume 1-6mg of CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight or to start. You may also consider a trial period where you would determine the most suitable dosage for you.

In comparison, the only FDA approved CBD – Epidiolex – is dosed as follows. Median dose is 12.5 mg/kg given twice daily. Maximum dose is 25 mg/kg given daily. For the median dose, if you weigh 150 pounds then 852 mg of CBD given twice daily would be FDA recommended. Now that is not a feasible dosage for general relief of pain or anxiety. It would require many ml’s of the oils to achieve this dosage.

What I would like to point out is that the FDA deems that dosage as a safe treatment dosage. Always consult with a doctor or contact the provider to get more information and some tips. You could experience tiredness, diarrhea or lightheadedness if your dosage is off. In some cases, there might be a change in weight as well. *This is not medical advice.*

FAQ: Could CBD help my Anxiety?

It is suggested that CBD could be helpful in the treatment of anxiety and stress by many clinical trials and organizations such as this report by the WHO. Note the many benefits attributed to CBD oil—everything from curing insomnia and improving glaucoma, to reducing inflammation and lessening ANXIETY.

CBD has a broad pharmacological profile, including interactions with several receptors known to regulate fear and anxiety-related behaviors, specifically the CB1 receptor, the serotonin 5-HT1A receptor, and the transient receptor potential (TRP) vanilloid type 1 (TRPV1)receptor.

Thus, maintaining the balance between CB1 receptors and TRPV1 channel activation is crucial for regulating anxiety.

FAQ: How can CBD aid my Weight Loss?

CBD has shown major promise in being able to modulate metabolism, as well as fat cells in the body.⁣

⁣One study reports, “These data suggest possible roles for CBD in browning of white adipocytes, augmentation of lipolysis, thermogenesis, and reduction of lipogenesis. Thus, CBD may be explored as a potentially promising therapeutic agent for the prevention of obesity.”⁣

This means that CBD can play a role in the formation and regulation of fat cells as well as the storage and breakdown of fat.

This also means that if weight is needed on the body, CBD can also help in that sense as CBD helps to rebalance homeostasis within the body.

FAQ: What is Whole Plant Extract, Broad Spectrum & CBD Isolate?

The whole plant refers to the entire bud with some leaves and possibly some stems. The buds are what is used to obtain extracts that are being compared to the isolated, pure CBD or THC cannabinoids.

Fullspectrum CBD is full of all the terpenes, cannabinoids, flavonoids, and fatty acids found in hemp, all of which have therapeutic value of their own and help create what’s know as the entourage effect. Broadspectrum CBD is a little bit of both. Broadspectrum CBD is fullspectrum CBD without any THC.

Full spectrum CBD quite simply means the product contains many cannabinoids beyond CBD, along with other elements of the cannabis or hemp plant, including naturally-occurring terpenes, essential vitamins, fatty acids, protein, and more.

It’s worth emphasizing that CBD itself is entirely non-psychoactive. While full spectrum oil contains small amounts of THC, it does not contain enough THC to produce any psychoactive effects.

The alternative to full spectrum is CBD isolate which contains only CBD – the CBD molecule is chemically isolated from everything else in the plant. CBD isolate is cannabidiol isolated and then refined to strip out any additional cannabinoids, terpenes, and plant components found in the hemp plant. The final product is a fine white powder that contains around 99% cannabidiol.

CBD isolates have no identifiable amount of THC, the well-known chemical found in cannabis that creates that euphoric high, and they’re stripped of the other beneficial and nutritional compounds like terpenes, flavonoids, vitamins, and protein mentioned above.
